Firstly, grilles must act as both a physical and visual deterrent and most grilles available in Ireland are visual deterrents only.
Basically, most grilles are not independently tested because the maker knows they won’t pass the strength test. Most of these cheaper grilles are unfit for purpose and if the grille itself is attacked, will likely provide little resistance to the criminal.
Ask your supplier to send a copy of the certificate. You need to know if they have been tested to the industry standard LPS 1175 Security Rating 1. Anything less is not good enough. Also, it pays to be alert when ordering large sizes and check that the certificate covers these.
